About the Original Artwork 
The Curlew was said to occupy the Liminal space along the coast; the space between the world of the living and the spirit world. The ethereal and haunting call of the curlew echoes across these worlds. Walking along the Black Isle coast has informed the tones and textural quality of the work as a layered and multi-dimensional collation of experience, observation and connection with the landscape. This piece was created using the process of batik and natural dyes derived from rust, alder, onion skins and elderberries. Felting and embroidery adds textural depth to the work. The curlew was hand-carved from a lino block and printed onto silk. The shimmering moon is 23 carat gold leaf.
